The Second bottle in the series of 4 limited release bottles by the Scapegrace distillery. A limited run of 7,824 bottles this whisky is made from New Zealand Laureate grain and as aged in virgin French oak casks. Scapegraces Master Distiller , Anthony Lawry, describes the whisky as having flavours of citrus blossom and poached pears. Elegant all-spice. The whisky reaches back longer than the Scapegrace distillery itself as Doug and Anthony started making this whisky long before Scapegrace put its branding on the barrels.

Made from 100% New Zealand grown malted barley, smoked using native Manuka wood and distilled through Thomson's copper pot stills. Natural smoke, cinnamon, clove, Manuka oils.

Two types of cask are used for the maturation of this blended whisky: European oak which formerly held New Zealand red wine, and American white oak used exclusively for whisky. Sea air, caramelised fruits, red berries, apricot, spice.

The entry is smooth and slightly creamy, with a surprising depth of flavour. Sweet malt and caramelised sugar dance on the tongue, complemented by a touch of orchard fruits - ripe apples and pears. The peat influence emerges gently, adding layers of earthy smoke that intertwine seamlessly with notes of oak and a hint of coastal brininess. Medium-long and satisfying, with the hint of peat smoke lingering alongside a final flourish of dried fruit and a whisper of dark chocolate.

In the vein of 'your best is yet to come' Golden Oldies revisits three of Waiheke Whisky's gold medal-winning first releases, and a fourth whisky, in time for gifting season. The set includes new barrels of even older, wiser & richer Moss, Seris 1 and The Sweetwater. These are joined by the Dyad II: Peat + Port. Unboxing is an experience in itself. The sleeve features golden-hue rocks from Waiheke Islands, Fossil Bay. Remove the sleeve and the box appears, which is adorned with bespoke Waiheke Whisky designs with their own meaning. The box unlocks to the Tasting Mat, set up each whisky on the mat and read the tasting notes and their detailed distilling process as you taste.
